Install Replacement Windows

Tip! The clear glass is the most widely used glass for windows in the market. However, as homeowners become more aware of the energy saving capacity of using glazing technology on their windows, most of them opt to have these clear glass windows glazed, which can control condensation and heat transfer.

As much as possible, homeowners would like to avoid incurring huge costs for their repair and home fixture replacement needs. This has some homeowners to learn how to do the repairs and replacements themselves. There are a number of sources that homeowners can tap to help them learn skills at doing the jobs themselves and these sources offer a wide range of information on how to go about replacing old home fixtures with new ones, which includes the installation of replacement windows.

Two types of window replacement installations

There are two types of replacement windows, one type (Type 1) includes a wide structural case and will require you to remove your old windows structural cases. The other type (Type 2) involves using narrow structural cases, which usually fit in the old window jamb or structural case. Between the two types, it seems that Type 2 window replacements are easier to install because you would not need to remove the old structural cases of your old windows. However, using Type Two will definitely involve a caulking, flashing and sealing on the outside of the window as to prevent water from penetrating through improperly sealed windows. Another drawback to the Type 2 windows is that the area of visible glass and the open area of the window can be reduced since they are technically smaller than your old windows.

Tip! The dormer windows refer to the vertically installed windows projecting out, from the sloped roof surface.

Given the drawbacks of using Type 2 windows, most homeowners prefer using Type 1 windows even if it would mean more trimming and sealing work on their part because using them allows you to have more viewing area and better ventilation. However, as most choices in your home, the decision is up to you, just be sure that in making these decisions, you consider all the pros and cons of suing a particular fixture over another.

Tip! In next weeks article,we will discuss the replacement of wood sash windows.
